PATHWAY

PATHWAY

PATHWAY is an application manager. It is a basic environment required to run an application manager.

This environment that is made up of the following components:

  • PATHMON: Central controlling process for operations within the pathway or a supervising process that manages all other processes running in a PATHWAY system.

  • PATHCOM: Command Interface to PATHMON process.

  • TCP (Terminal Control Process): Allows requesters to interact with servers. Executes the SCOBOL program in your application and co-ordinate communication between screen programs, I/O devices or processes, Server Processes and PATHMON processes.

  • REQUESTERS: Client, one which sends the request to server for any information.

  • SERVERS: Takes request from Requesters, these are programs in written C, C++, TAL etc.

  • INSPECT: Debugging tool to modify requester program.

  • TMF: Maintains data within the database.

  • SERVER Processes: Server process is a running database management program that handles the inter process communication messages for one or more servers.

  • SERVER CLASS: A group of identical server processes created from the same object file on the disk is called server class. A server class is, therefore a group of server processes that perform a specific type of application work.

  • PATHCTL: It is a disk file in which PATHMON process maintains the configuration information about the objects under it control.

  • Log files: A PATHMON process uses log file for reporting the errors and changes in the system.

  • LINKMON: It is the process which manages the communication between the server class and the PATHSEND processes.

  • PATHSEND: These are user applications that use PATHSEND procedure calls rather than SCOBOL language to send requests to server class.

FEW PATHWAY COMMANDS:

    • STARTING PATHWAY:
      – START PATHMON
      – START PATHCOM

    • Start PATHMON Environment
      START PATHMON PROCESS
      START PATHCOM PROCESS
      CONFIGURE PATHMON ENVIRONMENT
      START CONFIGURED OBJECTS

COMMANDS:

PATHMON /NAME $xxxx, CPU n, NOWAIT, OUT XYZ/PATHCOM $xxxx

Two modes of starting PATHMON environment:
– COLD START: Starting a new PATHMON environment which creates new PATHCTL files.
– COOL START: Restarting the PATHMON environment

Three modes of Shutting down:

      • ORDERLY

      • ABORT

      • IMMEDIATE

Some basic commands:

    • To reset server
      – Freeze servername
      – Thaw servername
      – Stop servername
      – Start servername

    • To reset term
      – Abort threadname
      – Start threadname
